Education Online: Not Such an Anomaly Anymore

Like most things we enjoy these days—shopping, gaming, socializing—there’s an online counterpart.  The same goes for education.

Of course for quite some time now there have been online components of classwork—various assignments, research, collaboration and the like—but nothing like today’s world where entire degrees can be completed online.  While perhaps not quite as legitimate as a university degree, I think it’s only a matter of time before it becomes more of a norm to complete a large part of an advanced degree remotely.

And why shouldn’t it be?  Most online classes now allow its students to connect online to live lectures and interact similarly to how we spend our leisure time on features like Skype.  I remember seeing some science fiction movie featured on the Disney

Extravagant Summer Extravaganza!

With mid-to-late summer comes a plethora of concerts, festivals and events.

Yes, I just said plethora.  It’s a great word that I love throwing around—plus it sums up my enthusiasm for all the entertainment opportunities the warmest of seasons brings.  Clearly, as the title suggests, I have a thing for words.

Anyway, I’m practically drooling in anticipation for my first ever Lollapalooza this year!  It’s been on my bucket list to attend a large scale outdoor concert, so when a friend moved to Chicago and my frequent flyer miles added up, the stars just sort of aligned.

It’s not even just about the music, although I’m definitely excited for that.  I think the experience as a whole—Chicago exploring included—is going to be a blast.

The muggy Midwest weather won’t even be

Vacay Away with Green Screen Wizard

With the economy still struggling and summer now in full bloom, it’s hard to release that urge to get out without overspending the budget. Sure, you can jump in the car for an impromptu road trip, but then the gas prices will get you down. Last minute flight deals claim to save you more, but even those fares are through-the-roof. Planes, trains, or automobiles—no matter your preference for travel, it all seems to cost way too much.

So, instead of throwing a pity party for one while you Facebook stalk all your friends’ vacation photos, how about doing a little budget-friendly traveling of your own? And no, I’m not talking about hitch-hiking (though I have always secretly wanted to let my thumb do the talking). This time, I’m talking about Green Screen Wizard.

Thrilled to Remember Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson Bobblehead

One year ago today, I was on my way to the beach with a friend when we received news of Michael Jackson’s death. In shock, we turned on the radio, and were immediately met with the late King of Pop’s voice. We switched to another station—same artist, different song. And again, and again. I was absolutely astounded. It speaks volumes when one man’s musical career has spanned over so many different lives, and so many different tastes. It didn’t matter what type of station it was (pop, rock, oldies, etc.), Michael Jackson’s voice took over the radio airways that day.

MJ’s death came as a sad surprise to me, but, I must admit, I wasn’t profoundly affected by it like I observed in so many others. I just didn’t get it. What was all the fuss about?

I went to one of
