Celebrate (Anti) Youth: National Grandparents Day

Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, your birthday . . .

There are plenty of let’s-celebrate-you-at-whatever-stage-in-life holidays, so why not Grandparents Day?  It’s perfectly logical, but until recently I didn’t realize there actually is a Grandparents Day—and it’s coming up on September 12th!

To be honest, I wish I had known about this holiday a long time ago.  You see, my last living grandparent died just a few weeks ago.

Don’t worry:  I promise I won’t make this a depressing read, but the storybook moral is this: take advantage of the time you have left with your grandparents, and if you spoil them with just an ounce of the affection they’ve shown you over the years, they’ll appreciate you all the more.

I know if I were putting something together for my recently deceased grandfather, it would most definitely have to feature photos.  He always had a million photos of his kids and grandkids around the entire house, and even though it seemed so disorganized, the fact that a birthday card or a photo (taken circa my most awkward years, of course) was still proudly displayed meant a lot.

For his age, my grandpa was a pretty technologically savvy guy, as I imagine many people’s grandparents have come to be, so a multimedia gift from Smilebox would’ve been right up his alley.  Scrapbooks, slideshows, videos—he loved it all so long as the pictures featured his loved ones.  He would’ve especially appreciated the kind of personalization Smilebox allows you to feature with individual music, text options and the like.  And hey, even if your grandparents don’t understand modern technology, there shouldn’t be a doubt in your mind that they wouldn’t love anything you give them from Smilebox.

The only other gift I would’ve been able to afford for Grandparents Day would have to be treats of the edible kind (quite possibly the best kind?).  Take Cookie Surprises, for example.

Over 80 hand-decorated cookie gifts start at under $5!  That’s the kind of present that makes both giver and receiver smile.  And considering it’s your grandparents we’re talking about here, I’m sure they’ll share a bite (or two)!

All joking aside, I really do hope that those of you with grandparents take the time this year to celebrate their role in your life on September 12th.  A card, a phone call, a present if you can afford it—it doesn’t take much to put a smile on your grandma and grandpa’s faces.

And between you and me (and any other savvy online shoppers out there, I suppose), there’s always 58Coupons.com available for the latest Smilebox coupons and Cookie Surprises discounts!

Happy Grandparents Day—miss you and love you always, Grandpa.
